Taxonomies of Difference in Global Humanitarianism
Editors: Malay Firoz & Pedro Silva Rocha Lima
This feature includes select contributions from a research workshop titled “Taxonomies of Difference in Global Humanitarianism,” organized by the Anthropology of Humanitarianism Network of the European Association of Social Anthropologists in July 2023. The feature makes the case for thinking with taxonomies of racialised difference as an analytical framework, a theoretical posture, and an empirical object. If humanitarianism is anchored in a universalising humanist vocabulary, these essays suggest that difference does not merely constrain such ambitions, but rather, is constitutive of humanitarian action itself.
